Traditional dance, dishes, crafts, cultural and historical heritage of the Republic of Bulgaria and neighboring Serbia were presented at the Festival held in the Municipality of Vratsa from 2 to 4 July. The event was held within the project “QuesTour – Valorization and capitalization of unexplored tourist cultural and historical routes in the cross-border region Bulgaria-Serbia” Interreg-IPA CBC Bulgaria-Serbia Program.
“The QuesTour Festival was a real ‘quest’. “Quest” through culture, customs and traditions on both sides of the border. The goal was to increase the value of traditions and crafts and to support the offer through joint tourist products and / or services “- it is pointed out in the National Tourism Cluster – Bulgarian Guide.
Participants from Bulgaria – craftsmen, artists, writers, cultural and artistic societies, chefs and others, presented their work during three festival days in the Municipality of Vratsa. Visitors could get acquainted with the renewal of antique weapons, handicrafts made of wood and leather, pottery or handmade jewelry made of natural materials. To get to know the customs and culture of a country, it is necessary to try traditional dishes, which were also offered by the participants of the QuesTour festival. Representatives of Bulgarian music groups and dance groups, which revived the traditional sounds of this country, were also an indispensable part of the festival program.
Participants from Serbia presented their business online, due to measures related to the corona virus pandemic. In that way, the visitors were able to get acquainted with the producers of Serbian wines and traditional dishes, as well as with the tourist treasures of southeastern Serbia. Wines, ironed sausage, Svrljig cheeses, the area of Sicevacka gorge and the canyon of the river Jerma, are just some of the guardians of Serbian tradition, history and natural and tourist wealth that were presented within the Festival.
The leading partner in the project is the National Tourism Cluster – Bulgarian Guide, and the partners are the municipality of Vratsa from Bulgaria and the association ENECA from Nis. This tourism organization is focused on the sustainable development of specialized types of tourism, including cultural heritage and cultural tourism, as well as the promotion of entrepreneurship in the tourism sector.
Within the “QuesTour” project, various workshops and tours of tourist “hidden gems” were held in the border region of the two countries, in six districts in Bulgaria and seven districts in Serbia. The region has about two million inhabitants, organizers say. The project is co-financed by the European Union through the Interreg-IPA Cross-border Cooperation Program Bulgaria – Serbia.
